A Ballingarry colt from the draft of the French Haras du Petit Tellier will be the first lot through the ring at the BBAG Yearling Sale on early Friday evening, 4th of September. This sale has advanced from being a meeting point for buyers from all over the world to becoming an assembly for leading stud operations in Europe. The leading nations England, France and Ireland will be offering some very well-bred and handsome individuals. Most of the vendors are domestic, though with all leading German studs prominently represented with all the currently so successful bloodlines on offer.
The Bavarian Gestut Ammerland is the first in alphabetical order. They have much larger draft on offer than in previous years with four colts and fillies each by such proven sires as Dai Jin, Noverre and Sinndar.
Gestut Auenquelle will be sending seven yearlings to Iffezheim. The filly Timara hails from the first crop of Shirocco with experts being very enthusiastic about them. The Lando filly Global Music is bred on the same lines as the Group I victrix Gonbarda and is a close relative to this year’s Irish Derby hero Fame And Glory.

Peter Michael Battel will have two Samum fillies on offer from his famous “Pepper Family” while Gestut Bona’s possible highlight could be the Lomitas colt Salut as the second foal of the Classic placed Group III winner Saldentigerin.

The top priced lot of all time came from Gestut Brummerhof who will be offering the Tiger Hill colt North Hill to that sales topping son of Monsun. The high-quality draft comprises eleven yearlings including a son of Monsun named Salvador and yearlings by such leading sires as Cape Cross, Green Desert and Red Ransom as well as the young Shirocco out of prolific dam lines.

Gestut Burg Eberstein’s two fillies by Lando and Tiger Hill respectively are sure at attract considerable attention. Capricorn Stud will be offering two yearlings by their own sire Ransom O’War as well as a smartly bred daughter of the successful first season sire Azamour. Looking at the draft of Gestut Directa one could label it “precocious” which is contributed by sires such Dubai Destination, Iron Mask an Kyllachy.

Gestut Ebbesloh may have only one yearling on offer, but one of high quality being a colt by the second season sire Dubawi out of the smart Stakes performer Estefania. The studs Elsetal, Erftmuhle and Erlenhof will be offering a much larger draft than in previous years. Gestut Etzean’s draft includes the first crop of the Group I winner Lord Of England whose is the sire of five yearlings from Etzean as well as numerous ones from other vendors. Gestut Eulenberger Hof will be having yearlings by Captain Rio, Country Reel, Dashing Blade and Oratorio on offer.

The numerically largest draft of 18 yearlings comes from Gestut Fahrhof. They had the sales topper last year and should once again be able to realise good money. One of the leading fancies is sure to be a Oasis Dream colt out of Desca. Others to stand out are three colts by Lomitas and one by Big Shuffle as well as fillies by Konigstiger and Royal Applause. Gestut Gorlsdorf’s draft of 14 yearlings has a strong international note with the 14 sires including such prolific stallions as Bering, Lomitas, Motivator and Sakhee. The recently deceased Platini will be represented in the draft offered by Gestut Harzburg just as Big Shuffle as the sire of Ursula Herbert’s two colts presented by this stud. Paul Hilger will be sending a Dai Jin colt out of an own sister to the Group II winner Ponte Tresa.

Gest Hof Ittlingen’s will be offering three colts by the stalwart Lomitas as as fillies by Green Tune and Lando. Gestut Hof Vesterberg’s colt offer Sanogo is a Shirocco half-brother to the Classic winning top miler Santiago and the German Derby runner-up Sordino. A new face on the list of vendors is the ambitious Gestut Hofgut Heyman with six yearlings on offer including a colt by Samum.

Gestut Isarland’s draft mainly consists of the first German crop of the Classic Group I winner and prolific sire Desert Prince whose progeny is much in demand. But there are also yearlings by sires such as Big Shuffle and Refuse To Bend on offer. Gestut Karlshof is not only a leading vendor, but also a leading breeder in Germany with the list being headed by no less than three winners of the German Derby in the past eight years. Their homebred resident stallion Samum is the sire of five colts and four fillies on offer plus the draft including a colt by the prolific Nayef who is also the sire of Cathrin Nack’s filly out of the Turfkonig mare Bukett.

Gunter Merkel will be offering a colt by Lomitas and a filly by Shirocco. Buyers have missed out on many a chance regarding the drafts of Gestut Park Wiedingen in past years such as the German 2000 Guineas hero Precious Boy or the recent Hamburg Group II Hansa-Preis scorer Flamingo Fantasy. This year’s draft comprises five fillies with a daughter of Dansili out of Flamingo Sky looking to be the standout offer. Gestut Paschberg’s draft inludes yearlings by Bertolini, Green Tune and Shamardal.

It has been a while since Gestut Rietberg had such a large draft on offer with a full-brother to the smart Bebe Vettori and two yearlings by the young French sire Okawango attracting the eye. Gestut Romerhof’s highlights include a Shirocco half-brother to the Classic winner Windhuk and the Group placed Whispered Dreams and a Aragorn colt bred from the Group winning Dasching Blade mare Peaceful Love as well as colts by Red Ransom and Bachelor Duke.

Gestut Rottgen’s draft is headed by a Green Desert colt out of the German 1000 Guineas heroine Diacada while Gestut Am Schlosgarten’s leading offer looks to be a Shirocco colt out of the Goofalik mare Believe. Gestut Sommerberg will be having yearlings by the Monsun horse Gentlewave, Iron Mask and Poliglote on offer while Dr. Werner Spangler is offering two colts by the prolific, but sadly deceased Kahyasi.

In the past few years, Graf and Grafin von Stauffenberg have sold very well at home and abroad. They are sending five yearlings by the sires Areion, Haafhd, Oasis Dream, Shirocco and the smart first season sire Whipper to Baden Baden. The Group I winner Ransom O’War is the sire of three yearlings offered by Gestut Trona.

The Union-Gestut’s draft of five includes a Monsun colt out of the Group III winning Lagunas mare Night Lagoon as well as two by Motivator and Peintre Celebre. Gestut Wittekindshof always has special highlights on offer, and many times people missed out on really big chances. Their offer comprises a High Chaparral filly out of the Group winning Monsun mare North Queen as well as colts by such leading sires Lomitas, Peintre Celebre and Shirocco. High Chaparal is also the sire of a filly on offer by Gestut Zoppenbroich who will also be sending two colts by Golan.

With foreign vendors doing really well at Baden Baden, their interest in the German market has risen markedly which also applies to their respective yearling drafts. The Irish Abbeleix Stud will be offering yearlings by stallions such Elusive City, Footstepsinthesand and currently very prolific Verglas. The Jacobs family’s Newsells Park Stud sold very well last year and returns with four yearlings for sale. Springing to the eye are a Monsun filly out of the well related mare Denice just like a Motivator filly out of Denice and a daughter of Motivator bred from Frozen Fire’s close relative Flamingo Queen as well as a Tiger Hill colt out of Waldblume as a daughter of the Classic winner and proven producer Wurftaube.

Adding up the horses of Haras du Petit Tellier on its own account and as an agent, they have the largest draft on offer. No less than twenty yearlings “nee et eleve en France” which means that they are eligible for the French owners’ premiums. The stud’s resident sire Meshaheer is represented five times while the others are by Doyen, Layman, Numerus and Kingsalsa.

This year’s BBAG Yearling Sale will take place on Friday, September 4th after the races and on Saturday, September 5th. Friday will see lots 1 to 90 through the sales ring at the BBAG complex, Saturday will continue with lot 91 right down through to 347.
